STOP Anxiety: 3 Simple Steps

Anxiety the Good, the Bad and the UGLY

Anxiety can be a normal part of life. In the short term, stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol can be helpful. For example, you may have felt anxiety before a deadline or in a job interview. Anxiety can help you overcome fears and obstacles by increasing your heart rate, focus, and concentration. These stress hormones are designed to be in the body for a short time to keep us safe, not to persist long-term.

However, when anxiety becomes too intense or lasts too long, persistent exposure to these stress hormones can have devastating effects on our physical and mental health.

Anxiety: The Bad

Persistent anxiety can lead to several negative effects on the body:

Sense of doom and difficulty concentrating
Panic attacks
Depression, including feelings of helplessness, loss of interest, and social withdrawal
Headaches due to constant worry
Irritability
Pounding heart and rapid, shallow breathing
Loss of libido
Upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea
Extreme fatigue and sleep issues

Anxiety: The Ugly

Chronic exposure to stress hormones can worsen symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and depression, and lead to serious health problems affecting immunity, heart, and digestive systems.

High and prolonged levels of stress hormones reduce our immunity and ability to heal. It’s crucial to maintain relaxation and calmness to increase feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine, enhancing the body’s healing power.

Chronic anxiety can also lead to heart issues, high blood pressure, digestive problems, and IBS, placing significant stress on our heart and digestive systems.

Three Steps to Find Relief from Anxiety

Here are three steps to combat the negative effects of anxiety:

Step 1: Develop Body Awareness

Developing body awareness involves learning to recognize when our body is under stress. This may require practicing meditation or mindfulness to understand what relaxation feels like amidst stress symptoms. Recognizing stress signals allows us to take timely action.

Step 2: Take Deep, Slow Breaths

When anxiety strikes, immediately take slow, deep core breaths. Repeat as needed. This simple practice can provide instant relief from anxiety symptoms, preparing the mind and body for further steps. Why? Because our subconscious mind believes that it is impossible to be in a state of fear while breathing into your core. The simple act of breathing into your core, TRICKS mind and body that you are calm. You are literally taking back control of your life!

Step 3: Address the Source of Anxiety

Depending on the type of anxiety, consider walking away to a safe, calm space, taking a walk for clarity, or talking out the stress. Face the source of anxiety by asking questions like: What is causing this anxiety? What aspects can I control? Facing fears often diminishes anxiety.

Practice these steps and observe how they work for you.

Have you ever tried to change a behavior, belief, or habit—or perhaps tried to overcome a fear—only to find that no matter how much effort or willpower you apply, the old patterns persist? If so, you’re not alone. There’s a simple explanation for this: the difference between your conscious and subconscious mind, and how they influence thoughts, habits, and change.

Understanding the Conscious and Subconscious Mind

Your thoughts and willpower originate in your conscious mind, which makes up just 10% of your brain power. It’s the tip of the iceberg. The other 90%, the much larger and more powerful part of your mind, is your subconscious mind, where habits, beliefs, and behaviors are stored.

Theory of the Mind — why your willpower is so ineffective

Now, you can begin to see why willpower alone often falls short. While it’s a great starting point, your conscious mind simply doesn’t have the strength to override the deeply ingrained patterns in your subconscious. But here’s the good news: the subconscious can be changed—quickly and effectively—with the right approach.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Let’s talk about those habits, beliefs, behaviors, and fears. They are like eight-lane highways in your subconscious mind—strong neural pathways formed over years of repetition and reinforcement. But these highways aren’t permanent. They can be rerouted using what I call Power Language—specific language that speaks directly to the subconscious.

And how do we deliver this Power Language? Through hypnosis

In a hypnotic trance,which is just a state of relaxation, your conscious mind takes a much-needed break. It enters a sort of “pause mode,” no longer actively thinking or analyzing. This creates a perfect window for the hypnotherapist to introduce suggestions—Power Language—that encourage your subconscious to replace old habits, beliefs, and fears with new, empowering ones.

What Is Power Language?

Power Language is the natural communication of the subconscious mind, rooted in imagination and emotion. By vividly imagining yourself living the new change you desire and pairing that image with strong, positive emotions, you signal your subconscious to begin accepting and building the new behavior or belief.

This process is like tending a garden. As you consistently focus on and nurture the desired change, while letting go of the old, unwanted behavior, the new pattern grows stronger and more established. Over time, it becomes the dominant pathway in your mind—like a well-paved eight-lane highway—while the old pattern gradually fades away, becoming a distant memory.

What Happens During a Hypnosis Session?

Here’s a common misconception: hypnosis is not mind control. You remain fully aware during the session. The suggestions used are not imposed on you; they come from you.

Before the session, we’ll discuss the change you want to make. I’ll ask questions like:

What does the change look like?
How will it feel?
How will your life improve with this change?

The answers to these questions become the foundation of the suggestions used during your session. Hypnosis is a collaboration, and you are always in control.

Mindful Magic: The Power of Mindfulness and Hypnosis

How I use mindfulness and hypnosis to create peace and wellness

Recently, I’ve realized that my love for mindfulness and hypnosis creates a powerful synergy that brings me peace and wellness. These two practices complement each other beautifully, allowing me to live with greater calm, energy, and vitality.

But let’s pause for a moment—what do peace and wellness mean to you? These concepts can look different for everyone. For me, peace is the absence of stress and anxiety, the feeling of being confidently in control of my life. Wellness, on the other hand, is feeling good in my body, energized, and knowing that my body can heal itself and manage pain effectively.

Today, I want to share my morning meditation process—a step-by-step routine I use to dissolve anxiety, cultivate peace, and foster wellness.

This is my process, something I’ve developed and refined over time. I started by following someone else’s steps, then evolved it into a practice that resonates with me. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, so feel free to adapt this to suit your needs.

Let’s dive in!

My Morning Meditation Process

Step 1: Set a Timer

I start by setting a timer for 15 minutes. If you’re new to this, you might want to begin with a shorter time—whatever feels comfortable for you.

Step 2: Take Core Breaths

Next, I take a few deep breaths, focusing on releasing any tension or “stuff” I may be holding onto.

Step 3: Mindful Breathing

I bring my awareness to my breath—this is the mindful breathing phase. I focus on something specific about my breath, such as its rhythm, the muscles involved, or even the sound it makes. I stay here for a few moments or minutes, allowing myself to relax deeply before moving on.

Step 4: Gratitude Practice

Once I feel relaxed, I shift my focus to gratitude. I silently say “thank you” for whatever comes to mind—my angels and guides, their light and guidance, or the blessings in my life.

Step 5: Self-Hypnosis

Now, I transition into self-hypnosis, combining imagination and emotion. I visualize what I want and focus on how it would feel to have it right now.

Here’s an example: If I’m feeling anxious about a person or situation, I avoid dwelling on “what if” scenarios. Instead, I focus solely on what I want to happen. I send energy into the universe, affirming that I want this outcome—or something even better.

Similarly, if I’m dealing with illness, I don’t focus on the discomfort. I imagine myself feeling better, full of vitality, and doing the things I love. This sends a strong message to my subconscious mind that I expect to feel better soon.

Step 6: Wrap Up with Gratitude

I stay with this visualization and emotion until the timer rings. Then, I thank the universe, the Divine, or God, and slowly bring myself back to alertness, feeling inspired, empowered, and amazing.

Step 7: Journaling

After the meditation, while still in a state of deep relaxation, I grab my journal for an automatic writing session.

This is where I process any limiting beliefs, blocks, or frustrations that may have surfaced during the session. Sometimes I’m consciously aware of these, and other times they’re just below the surface.

Journaling helps me release these blocks for good. I create action plans, affirmations, and healing practices, or even tap into inspiration and excitement about my goals. It’s a powerful way to conclude my meditation/self-hypnosis practice.

My Super Power

This is why mindfulness and hypnosis is my Super Power. Mindfulness has the power to produce relaxation, easily and quickly, opening the door to your subconscious mind. Then following up with self-hypnosis manifesting what you want both in your subconscious mind and with your energy sending your manifesting vibration into the universe. This synergy is empowering, healing and calming.
