My Story
I come from high general anxiety. These 5 steps I will be sharing, I use everytime worry, stress or anxiety disturb my peace. They work for me and I trust they will work for you as well.
Understanding Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real
When stress and anxiety grip you, it often stems from a fear of future outcomes that may never materialize. Remember, fear is often just ‘False Evidence Appearing Real’ (FEAR). When confronted, it usually dissipates, revealing its true nature.
Step 1: Deep Abdominal Breathing
Start by calming yourself with deep abdominal breaths. Breathe into your core, allowing your abdomen to expand with each breath. Continue this slow, deliberate breathing, letting your chest rise as your lungs fill completely. Repeat this process three to five times to signal your subconscious to switch from stress to a sense of safety and calm.
Step 2: Awareness and Assessment
Once you begin to feel calmer, become aware of the source of your stress. Is it real, or is it an imagination? What’s the worst-case scenario, and how likely is it to actually happen? Determine what you can control versus what you cannot. What steps can I take now? These questions often help diminish fear’s grip.
Step 3: Envision Your Desired Outcome
Shift your focus to what you truly desire. Visualize your desired outcome vividly—imagine it in full detail, like watching a vibrant movie. Disregard the thought that your desired outcome will never happen…Imagine it anyway. With the movie playing in your mind’s eye…see, hear, and feel the scenario as if it’s happening now. Embrace the positive emotions this visualization brings. Experience it completely with all the senses.
Step 4: Add Emotion: Love and Gratitude
Infuse your envisioned outcome with powerful emotions like love and gratitude. Feel as if you already have achieved this outcome. Your subconscious mind cannot distinguish between reality and imagination, so by feeling grateful for your desired outcome, you prime yourself to attract it into your life.
Step 5: Reinforce and Repeat
Whenever negative thoughts resurface, interrupt them with a firm “STOP!” Then immediately replay your envisioned positive outcome, complete with the emotions of love and gratitude. Repeat this process consistently to retrain your mind towards empowerment, calmness, and peace.
